If you’re new to Deadlock you might be a bit overwhelmed by everything that’s going on. Between the lanes, heroes, troopers, and everything else, it can be difficult to wrap your head around the game. That’s why we’re starting with the basics – a guide on Deadlock Souls. Here’s everything you need to know about the in-game currency.
What Are Souls in Deadlock?
Souls are the in-game currency of Deadlock. They function much like gold in traditional MOBA’s like League of Legends or Dota 2 – you earn them by doing stuff and spend them in the shop for items to upgrade your character. There are multiple ways to earn Souls and they can function in different ways. Let’s break them down.
How to Get Deadlock Souls
There are multiple ways to get Souls in Deadlock. These include lane troopers, lane objectives, map objectives, jungle creeps, and enemy heroes.
The most common way to get Souls is through lane troopers. These are the AI-controlled minions that flow down each lane. Killing one gives you a set amount of Souls and spawns a Soul Orb which floats upwards. You’ll want to secure your own Soul orbs (green) by shooting them and try to deny enemy Soul orbs (orange), also by shooting them. All of these things give Souls. In the first 10 minutes of the game a last hit gives you 50% of the Souls, and the other 50% is granted through the Soul orbs. After 10 minutes all 100% comes through the Soul orbs.
Moving down the lane you can also get Souls by destroying the enemy buildings. These are tough and require a bit of work to takedown, but provide a large Soul boost!
Outside of lanes you can also focus on map objectives and jungle creeps. Map objectives include the Soul Urn and the Mid Boss. They are both neutral objectives that can be done by either team and create things to fight over outside of the lanes.
Last but not least, you can earn Souls by killing enemy heroes. The amount of Souls varies depending on their bounty, which can change depending on level, game state, number of kills, etc.
What Are Unsecured Souls in Deadlock?
Unsecured Souls come from Jungle Creeps and crates. They can be spent like normal Souls, but have a key difference – you lose them on death, and they can then be picked up by your enemies or allies.
The good news is that they become “secured” over time. They simply slowly transfer to your Souls total, so all you need to do is stay alive to lose the risk of dropping them.
